Wills
Your 'Last Will & Testament' is a basic document that outlines your wishes with regards providing for your family members and the distribution of your assets after you pass away. We typically include related documents - a healthcare power of attorney (living will) and a financial power of attorney with our wills and trusts.
Living Trusts
A form of estate plan that puts your assets in a revocable trust - essentially holding title while allowing you full control over the assets - preserving them for you and those that would benefit from your will. Benefits include more control over your assets after you are gone, greater privacy, and perhaps most importantly, less chance that your family will have to deal with lengthy probate court procedures after your death.
Special Needs & Spendtrift Trusts
A trust that provides for those who cannot manage their own finances, for whatever reason, while maintaining eligibility for federal and state benefits.
QDROs and DROs
Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (QDROs) are court orders directing plans to divide retirement accounts, typically post-divorce. These orders balance state and federal law with retirement plan bureaucratic procedures, and must be prepared timely and accurately to guarantee both parties' property rights. DROs are the same concept, just applied to state and local retirement plans.
Prenuptial Agreements
Prenups, also known as premarital or antenuptial agreements, for most couples are simply smart financial planning. These contracts allow you to shape your financial life during marriage - whether or not it lasts until "death do you part." Many people use these agreements to preserve their families' inheritance or to shield their new spouses from creditors and other premarital debt obligations.
Gun Trusts
Putting your firearms in a trust ensures that they will pass to someone who is legally able to own them after you're gone, plus trusts may be exempt from certain firearm restrictions.
