1. Employer Contributions and Vesting
In many corporate 401(k) plans, employees are only partially vested in employer contributions. That means if a participant worked for First quality plumbing & irrigation, Inc. 401(k) p for only a short time, not all contributions made by the employer may be eligible for division. Your QDRO should clarify that only vested amounts get divided. Unvested portions may be forfeited or remain subject to future employment.
