Dividing retirement accounts during a divorce is one of the most important—and often most confusing—steps in the process. If your spouse has a 401(k), you’re likely entitled to a portion of that account. But to receive it legally and without triggering taxes or penalties, you’ll need something called a Qualified Domestic Relations Order (QDRO).
