Employee and Employer Contributions
Most 401(k) accounts include both employee contributions and employer matches. While all contributions an employee makes are 100% theirs, employer contributions may be subject to a vesting schedule. If a spouse is awarded a portion of the account, the QDRO should clarify whether that award includes only the vested employer contributions or if there will be future payout adjustments.
In the Strauss Dairy Ingredients 401(k) Retirement Plan, this distinction is critical. Make sure to confirm the latest vesting percentages from the plan administrator before drafting the QDRO.
