Types of Contributions to Consider
401(k) plans often include different types of contributions. This matters because not all of them may be divisible or fully vested:
- Employee Contributions: These are typically 100% vested and can be divided in a QDRO.
- Employer Contributions: These may be subject to a vesting schedule, which means some of the value could be forfeited if not vested at the time of divorce or QDRO processing.
