Traditional vs. Roth 401(k) Accounts
Some plans offer both traditional and Roth 401(k) options. Traditional contributions are pre-tax, while Roth contributions are made after taxes. Each is subject to very different tax rules upon distribution.
Your QDRO should specify whether the division applies proportionately to both types of accounts. If only one spouse is set to receive Roth assets, the tax situation could be vastly different. You’ll want to be very clear in the QDRO language to avoid disputes or confusion later.
