Employee and Employer Contributions
401(k) accounts often include both types of contributions. The employee’s contributions are typically 100% vested, while the employer’s match may be subject to a vesting schedule, depending on plan rules. For the Retail Contractors of Puerto Rico, Inc.. 401(k) Plan, it’s important to determine:
- What percentage of employer contributions are vested
- If any employer contributions were forfeited during the marriage
- If the division should include only vested amounts or total balances as of the division date
