Employee and Employer Contributions
When preparing your QDRO, one of the first decisions will be whether to divide:
- Just the employee’s contributions (money contributed from salary)
- The entire account, including employer matches
With the Madison County Memorial Hospital 401(k) Savings Plan, you may encounter employer contributions that are subject to a vesting schedule. This means part of the account may not be fully “owned” by the employee yet, and those unvested balances could later be forfeited. So, if you’re the alternate payee, be cautious about dividing a percentage of the total balance unless it’s clear how the QDRO handles any unvested amounts.
